Before Getting Started

Before getting started with the installation of your MX-PDK, some information needs to be provided to us.

The MX-PDK installation can be performed in 2 ways:

  • Remote installation on customer hardware
  • Pre-installed delivery using BubbleRAN's hardware of choice

Regardless of the installation process type you have selected, we will provide a shared Google Sheet in order to complete it with some required information:

  • Hostname: by default is: bubble1(Control-plane node), bubble2, and bubble3. You may choose any other machine names of your liking.
  • UUID: (only needed for remote installation) this is the unique ID of each machine which can be obtained with sudo dmidecode --string=system-uuid
tip

In order to get the UUID of the machine before installing any OS, you may use a bootable USB stick with a Ubuntu image (as explained here) to be able to run the command.

  • Display Name: default is the name of customer.
  • Username: this is the username of the ubuntu system, by default is a short version of the customer name.
  • User Passwords: default br@<customer-name>
  • IP addresses allocation (static or DHCP): we need you to provide the IP addresses that are allocated by your IT team to your O-Cloud cluster. This could be in the same subnet as your lab or could be a separate subnet. The number of static IP addresses we need depends on how many nodes you plan to use to create your O-Cloud.
  • DNS IP address: by defaut 8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4
  • Time Zone: e.g., Europe/Paris
  • Local: by default en_US.UTF-8
  • Machine Spec: this is a placeholder, where you provide the hardware spec of your machines. The min hardware spec is also provided as reference.
  • PTP-ready Fronthaul Switch IP: if any, an extension to the machine IP addresses, provided by your IT for the fronthaul switch.
  • PCI Board(s): e.g., Intel E810-XXVAM2, necessary for supporting O-RAN 7.2 fronthaul, IPs are not necessary to be specified for these interfaces. If remote installation MAC addresses are necessary.
  • Radio Unit(s):
  • Quectel UE(s):
note

The items that are not checked are optional and are not needed to be specified in the spreadsheet.

Once all the information has been provided on the spreadsheet, we will create a config file for the installation at our server to prepare the installation. If you have chosen to get a pre-installed MX-PDK you may skip the remote installation guide and go directly to the bring-up guide .
