Application-Driven Auto-RAN Slicing

12th and 13th of September BubbleRAN participated in the OpenAirInterface workshop in Biot in France. Our BubbleRAN team was speaking and presenting engaging demos at this workshop which celebrated its 10th Anniversary this year 🎉

We demonstrated two emerging topics:

  1. Adaptive Application-Driven RAN Slicing with OAI, led by Chiehchun and Mikel
  2. Digital Twin for 6G Networks, led by Ilias and Andrea

Demonstration about Automated Application-Driven RAN Slicing (Auto-RAN) with OAI is enhancing the adaptability of the RAN to meet diverse Quality of Service (QoS) requirements to meet spatio-temporal application traffic variability in next-generation mobile networks.

In this demonstration, we deployed an end-to-end 5G O-RAN network with the following components

✅ OpenAireInterface gNodeB and core network with COTS UEs

✅ BubbleRAN Near-Real-Time RAN Intelligent Controller and Auto-RAN xApp

We implemented advanced automated control logic within an xApp, which continuously monitors current traffic patterns for each User Equipment (UE) and assesses their application-specific requirements, such as latency and bandwidth.

Based on this real-time analysis, the xApp automatically enforces optimal RAN slicing policies, adjusting radio resource allocation and managing traffic* within the RAN on-the-fly to ensure that each UE receives tailored QoS.
