brc config ru
brc config ru
Manage the Radio Unit inventory and credentials
Synopsis
Radio Units are not Kubernetes workloads: they are external appliances that a worker node reaches over the fronthaul network. Two pieces of state decide whether a Radio Unit can be used by a Network, and this command manages both.
The inventory
Each worker node declares the Radio Units attached to it in /etc/pontus/ru.json. The
pontus-ru-report service probes exactly the entries listed in that file and Pontus republishes the result
as the radio.gaia.t9s.io/inventory annotation on the node, which is what Athena reads when it assigns a
Radio Unit to an Access network element.
A Radio Unit that is not declared in /etc/pontus/ru.json is invisible to the whole stack, which is why
brc config ru list reports the declared entries alongside the observed ones: an RU that is declared but never
becomes observed is the normal symptom of a fronthaul, PTP, or credential problem.
The credentials
Athena's manager logs into the Radio Unit to configure it, using the credentials mounted from the
ru-secrets Secret installed by the Composition Model. LiteON units ship with fixed credentials, but
Benetel units running firmware that mandates a password need whatever password the operator set on the unit, so the
Secret has to be updated per deployment with brc config ru set-password.
- Inventory operations reach the worker node over SSH; the Kubernetes node name is used as the SSH host unless
--hostoverrides it.
Examples
# show every Radio Unit known to the cluster, declared and observed
brc config ru list
# declare a new Radio Unit on a specific worker node
brc config ru add ru-01 benetel-650 172.21.14.10 --node moto
# set the password Athena uses to log into the Benetel units
brc config ru set-password benetel-650
Options
-h, --help help for ru
Options inherited from parent commands
-n, --namespace string namespace to perform the operations (default "trirematics")
-v, --verbose debug output
